| Description | Each report details the inspections made by the Visiting Directors, providing observations and suggestions on the condition and state of the establishment, the buildings and the grounds. Each report is signed by the Director. The entries vary in length and detail, with some being a few lines and others several pages with information about each individual hospital building. The inspections cover both Crichton Royal Institution and Southern Counties Asylum. Entries begin monthly but become less frequent.
Loose items in this volume include reports by Visiting Directors which have also been copied into the book, except those for November 1897 and July 1898 which do not appear in the volume:
